Fluorescent Aquarium Lighting
Fluorescent lighting fixtures are the most common way hobbyists light their aquariums - they run cool, come in different colors and the bulbs are inexpensive to replace. Generally, NO (normal output) fluorescent bulbs will sustain fish-only tanks up to 16" deep, and HO (high output) or VHO (very high output) bulbs can adequately light deeper fish-only tanks or low-light reef tanks. Some of our hoods also have built in fluorescent fixtures.
