GH (General Hardness) and KH (Carbonate Hardness) test kits measure dissolved mineral content in your water. Use GH & KH test kits to determine how hard your tap water is, and what softening/buffering needs you have. Proper hardness creates the right environment for your organisms, and affects pH stability. In reef aquariums, calcium processing requires high KH - to increase hardness, use buffers or add crushed coral or limestone to your tank or filter.
