Modular filtration is a good choice for aquarists who want control over the design of their tank's filtration system. The modular series from Pentair Aquatics is easily used for expansion and customization, and as long as you're using modules with the same size and type inlets and outlets, they will connect easily. If using modules with different inlets and outlets, additional adapting parts are necessary.
The mechanical module uses a combination cartridge with replaceable 20 micron pleates. The center of the cartridge has a perforated core and may be filled with approximately 3 oz of carbon. This option is available in the single size only.
The pressure gauge on top of the module indicates when the cartridge needs cleaning. Requires a pump which will turn over the aquarium water 3-4 times per hour. Module has a 1 1/4" slip inlet and 1" slip outlet. Rated for 100 gallon aquariums, but in many cases can be used with great success in higher volume applications.
