It does not affect nitrifying bacteria. An excellent preventative treatment for quarantine tanks.

Reef safe Kick Ich is a water treatment for the control of ich in marine and freshwater aquaria. It has been scientifically formulated to eliminate the free swimming, infectious stage of the ich life cycle while being safe for all freshwater and marine aquaria. Kick Ich has a long shelf life at room temperature and is supplied in easy to use, self dosing bottles. Safe for all fish, corals, invertebrates and macroalgae, as well as the facultative anaerobes and nitrifying bacteria essential to biological filtration.

Instructions Rally Remove all absorbent filtration material -- such as activated carbon. Freshwater: Add 1 oz. per 5 gallons total water volume; if the pH is above 8.0 use dosage prescribed for marine aquaria.
Marine water: Add 1 oz. per 10 gallons total water volume.
Add once per day for at least 3 days. Longer tretment periods may be required for heavy or persistant infections.
Kick ich For 15 day treatment: Begining on day 1 add 2 oz. of Kick-Ich for each 25 gallons of total water volume for the entire aquarium + filter system(s). Repeat on days 3, 7, 10 and 13 whether or not spots continue to be visible. For heavy infections repeat on days 3, 5, 7, 10 and 13. Persistant infections may require repeating the cycle. Do not use carbon or similar absorbent media, during treatment (phosphate absorbents are OK.) Protein skimmers can appreciably reduce effectivenss of the treatment. Safe for all fish (including scaleless fish), plants, corals and invertebrates. Will not affect biofiltration.
